❝ Masquerade ❞

{ seething shadows breathing lies }
Traditional thing that Iseul is, he made a point of sending out invitations to every monster and supernatural being with whom he's acquainted the day after telling Damian of his masked ball. Each is written in a large, looping hand and reads:
- My Dear Friend,
You are cordially invited to a most exclusive masquerade ball to be held at my estate on the next new moon. The attire is formal with a theme of silver and gold. My doors will open promptly at 8:00pm. Dinner will be served with music, dance, and festivities to follow.
I do so look forward to your attendance.
Kindest Regards,
Your Host
Guests will find the house dark and sprawling, positively goth in decor and style. For those who know or know of Iseul, this won't be a surprise. There's a running joke in the community that the Fae is truly meant to be a vampire... more so than his long-standing vampire rival. Those in attendance will be shown to the parlor, the pocket doors thrown wide to the adjoining suite to make it something of a small ballroom. Musicians sit off to the corner playing with few breaks throughout the night.
The dining room boasts a long table with a veritable banquet. Though, one must be careful about eating Faerie food. Never fear, dear guests, for none of this food was prepared or even harvested by Fae hands. Outside, the grounds are covered with sprawling flower gardens, topiaries, and even a small maze of hedges. Lanterns light the paths since there's no moon for light. Both in and out, the house has many dark nooks and crannies and unoccupied to rooms to disappear into. All guests are welcome to stay if, for any reason, they are unable to leave at first light.

Gaja’s smile softened as he watched the dragon’s gesture. Such appreciation was unmistakable. Everything Gaja brought Nam was something sparkling and beautiful. In part because he liked sparkling things. Also because he wanted to adorn the one so dear to him in shimmer and shine – he wanted Nam to look like the midday sun dazzling of water. Every gift was given freely, without wish for any favors in return. All he ever wanted from Nam was his time and companionship. Nothing more or less.
“Will you be leaving in the morning?” Whatever time Nam chose to return home, Gaja would accompany him. The bird just wanted to plan ahead for saying his goodbyes to their host and other guests.

Nam slides his hand over the necklace yet again, tracing the glittering stones of various sizes as he makes a path up to where they meet his throat. He's not always been one for things like necklaces as he doesn't always feel comfortable with something encircling his throat, yet he's never had much of a problem wearing one that the bird's gifted him with. Funny how that works, isn't it? He runs his finger along the top of the stunning piece of jewellery then drops his hand down onto Gaja's arm, letting it come to rest right in front of where his other arm is already draped. He lightly pats the bird's arm to indicate that they should keep with their slow meanderings through the topiaries and lanterns.
"Once the sun rises, I'll be leaving here. That's more than long enough to leave my home without its guardian." Almost too long, but he so rarely ventures this far from home (so rarely that his own goodbyes come morning will be quick. No more than their host, really) that he should really make the most of it, shouldn't he? Stay away as long as he dares, be among others for a few hours, even if he never sees them, and see the phoenix against a different backdrop. That sounds like the perfect way to make the most of his time away from home.

He nods with a quiet hum of agreement.
"I'll go with you."
Once the sun rises, they'll leave. Gaja will travel with Nam back to the river, see his friend settled there, maybe even stay another day or two before returning to his wanderings. For now, he'll simply enjoy the dragon's companionship. And the effort their host put into making these gardens as beautiful by night as by day.
